| Greening Historic Buildings in the 21st Century A Symposium Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission & Dickinson College This symposium focused on the latest information, techniques, and technologies that can be mobilized in the process of transforming historic structures into green buildings and LEED certified projects. In attendance for S. Harris Ltd. were Jessica Senker, Melanie Kasper, Janine Hildebrand and Bridget Schmelzer...all LEED Green Associates. Featured speakers and presenters were from the U.S. Green Building Council, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the National Park Service, the Governor's Green Government Council and the Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Board, as well as architects, designers and construction specialists with experience working in historic buildings and green construction/LEED certification. At the end of the symposium, we took part in a tour of Dickinson College’s historic Althouse building, which is in the final stages of a major green renovation, and were able to witness, first hand, strategies for integrating green design into Historic Preservation. |
