PECO Green Roof Tour Totaling over 45,000 square feet, the PECO Green Roof it is the largest green roof on an existing building in Philadelphia. Says Denis O’Brien, the company's president and CEO, “As a major business in the region, being environmentally responsible is not just a nice thing to do—it’s the right thing to do.” Last year, more than 500 people toured the roof. Tours are run on a monthly basis by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. The planting design for the PECO roof is comprised of low-growing non-native succulents over the majority of the roof, with native perennials and ornamental grasses in the planting beds surrounding the viewing deck. Our staff was very interested to learn about and examine the technology and method of construction used on this roof. We look forward to attending more conferences on this topic, and to pursing greeen roofs on some of our future projects. |
