Confined Space Entry In June 2008, our team became involved with a project in Trenton, NJ, involving excavations to uncover a culvert dating back to 1814. The numerous risks involved with entering the underground waterway, named Petty’s Run, were readily evident and warranted certification in Confined Space Entry. Once we were certified, we would be granted a confined space entry permit from the City of Trenton to begin our assessment of the structure. We elicited the services of Compliance Solutions, a company specializing in onsite confined space training. They taught us first how to safely and confidently understand and evaluate hazards. Then we learned the procedures associated with entry into permit-required confined spaces. After lots of practice and testing, we each earned our certifications and were awarded our diplomas. Our entry into Petty’s Run was made through an existing manhole and required a number of safety equipment rentals, including a VRAE 4-Gas Meter, a hoist/wench/tripod, and full body harnesses. Argus-Hazco and Pine Environmental facilitated an easy rental process and prompt delivery of all our required equipment.
