Arden Craft Shop Museum
LOCATION

STRUCTURE Arts & Crafts styled community building designed by sculptor Frank Stephens and architect William L. Price as part of a planned 20th Century community.
CHALLENGE
The budget for renovating the over one hundred year old property to house six apartments and a museum was minimal and there were a multitude of undesirable renovations. Compliance with current building, safety, ADA codes required careful planning and budget considerations.
SCOPE OF SERVICE
- Conduct inspections and assessments of the structure, its fire safety, and code compliance.
- Provide design and construction documents for the reconfiguration of the building into six apartments and a village museum.
- Provide repair specifications for the severely termite damaged structural wood beams and exterior trim.
SOLUTION
- Epoxy consolidants and Dutchman repairs were used to structurally stabilize the termite damaged beams.
- Redesign of the interior staircase to meet existing building and fire codes.
- Providing ADA accessibility and lavatories for the museum area.
- Specifying quality low-cost options for interior finishes to meet the tight budget.
