LOCATION

Original steel sculptures by Alexander Calder placed on the south side of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, between 21st and 22nd Streets.


CHALLENGE

Creating a sculpture garden within a small urban slice of land that would highlight and complement a rotating exhibit of painted metal sculptures designed by Alexander Calder.  Adequate anchoring, security, and safety measures were necessary for the project’s approval by the City of Philadelphia.

SCOPE OF SERVICE
  • Prepare footprint drawings and scaled model of each sculpture for site placement design.
  • Prepare and present project documents to local commissions for City of Philadelphia approval.
  • Secure and coordinate contractors throughout site preparation, installation, and finishing.

SOLUTION

  • Presented options to local commissions and agencies to ensure the safety of the sculptures and the public.
  • Designed anchoring systems for simple installation and quick reversibility.
  • Prepared project record documents to catalog all products, vendors, and contractors used for future work at the site.
