STRUCTURE
The CASE Building (current acronym for Cultural Arts & Special Events) was a public comfort station built in 1912 for park visitors. The stone building now houses administrative functions for the Fairmount Park system.
CHALLENGE
The existing wood windows were in poor condition and the multiple roofing levels and types were in need of repair. All repairs had to be done while the building remained occupied by the staff.
SCOPE OF SERVICE
Assess and report conditions to the Fairmount Park staff and the City of Philadelphia’s Capital Program Office.
Prepare design documents for the roofing and fenestration work.
Provide an order of magnitude cost estimate for the client to facilitate budgeting for the work.
Provide construction documents based on comments for the approved work.
SOLUTION
Remove the window sashes and install temporary protections so the repairs could be done off-site.
Roofing demolition and replacement was designed to maintain as much of the existing slate shingles.
Wood trim repairs and replacements were made to match the existing profiles.
HISTORIC STATUS
Listed on the local register of historic properties within the Fairmount Park system.
