EL TEATRO CLIENT Coleman-Davis Pagán Arquitectos LOCATION San Juan, Puerto Rico STRUCTURE Located in the University of Puerto Rico’s Rio Piedras Campus, the 1939 theater is a center for cultural productions not only within the university but also for the country. The Rio Piedras Campus is the largest of the 1903 University of Puerto Rico system. The theater, “El Teatro” in Spanish, is clad with ornamental glazed terra cotta and features long arcades and Spanish terra cotta roof tiles. CHALLENGE Restoring the clay tile roof sections to resist lift-off during tropical storms and that would not foster vegetative growth. SCOPE OF SERVICE
