STRUCTURE

The original portion of Linderman Library, built in 1877, was designed by Philadelphia Architect, Addision Hutton. A major gothic style addition was added in 1929, surrounding all sides of the original building except its rotunda on the south side. The library houses the Humanities collection and is a campus landmark.
 

CHALLENGE

S. Harris & Co. was retained in early 2004 as the Historic Preservation Consultants on the project.


SCOPE OF SERVICE
  • Survey and document the existing exterior envelope and roof plan.
  • Assess and provide recommendations for the exterior windows.
  • Develop and document the exterior restoration work.
SOLUTION
  • We surveyed and produced documentation of the exterior building elevations and roof plans, including measured drawings and a written report.
  • We evaluated the exterior windows and documented repairs, restoration, and remedies for condensation and heat loss problems.
  • We produced a detailed schedule and profile drawings of each window type and locations, which are keyed to the elevation drawings.
  • We developed and documented specifications for the exterior restoration work, including roof repair, masonry repair and repointing, and historic door restoration.
