STRUCTURE

A three-story, twin masonry building, located 1832-34 Tioga Avenue, owned and operated by the Gaudenzia Foundation.

CHALLENGE

The building had not been updated for a number of years. The Foundation requested a programmatic change which required a 90% interior renovation.  The new program was to provide housing for ten women and up to thirty children at this New Hope facility.

SCOPE OF SERVICE
  • Prepare schematic design options for the new residents; including areas for administrative offices, child play areas, computer/study areas for school-aged children, a large dining space, lounge areas for the residents, and a nurse’s station.
  • Provide construction documents and project oversight for the approved options undertaken.
SOLUTION
  • Structural repairs to the flooring and stair systems were provided during the discovery period of demolition.
  • New concrete stairwell was added at the rear of the building to provide direct egress from the basement level to the rear yard.
  • Circulation patterns were altered to meet current safety codes for egress and an automatic sprinkler system was installed.
