SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PHILADELPHIA
CLIENT
CDA&I Architecture & Interiors, Ltd.

LOCATION
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

STRUCTURE
Forty masonry structures housing elementary, middle and high schools built between 1901 and 1974.  The roofing on each school varied, and included asphalt, hot-mop, ballasted, and rubber.

CHALLENGE
The S. Harris Ltd. survey team was asked to survey forty Philadelphia School building roofs within four and a half months in 2004.  Each survey had to be independently reported in a specifically designed database provided by the School District’s facilities consultant.

SCOPE OF SERVICE
  • Record conditions of all roofing components, including but not limited to, coping, flashing, drainage, parapets, access, and coatings.
  • Enter all data and photographs into a coordinated database of school building conditions.
SOLUTION
  • Entered all conditions data within one week of each survey so the efforts could be coordinated amongst the larger team surveying the interiors and systems of the buildings.
  • All photographs and data were submitted to the lead team for final submission to the school district.  Any serious conditions observed were reported immediately.
