STRUCTURE
The Refuge Barn is a part of the Supawna Meadows National Wildlife Reserve located in Pennsville, NJ. Currently, it provides a natural habitat to a number of species of owls and bats. The barn itself is comprised of stone masonry foundation and perimeter walls with large vertical timber framing members which post down to concrete pedestals.

CHALLENGE
We were retained by the Friends of Supawna to provide an economical means of stabilizing the barn in order to allow its re-use as a natural wildlife habitat.

SCOPE OF SERVICE
  • Devise a stabilizing plan.
  • Provide construction documents for proposed repairs.
  • Include specification, for timber grade and steel connectors.
  • Include member schedule for repairs.
SOLUTION 
We produced documents and specifications that detailed the following :
  • Rehabilitate fractured structural members.
  • Design lateral bracing for structural members.
  • Reinforce weakened members.
  • Restore cracked masonry walls.
  • Close off the damaged west wall.
